Oregon Foundations Response to COVID-19

As communities continue to be negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, I am heartened by the number of foundations that have responded and are helping nonprofits to meet their immediate funding requirements.  For example, the Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) has already provided $4.2 million in grants to over 160 nonprofits across the state of Oregon. According to their website: “With inputs from a network of volunteers, community leaders and partners, OCF has provided funding and resources to nonprofits to help them fill gaps in funding during the crisis, providing resources where and when they are critically needed, focusing most on Oregon’s most vulnerable populations.”

Foundations are acutely aware of the challenges that many nonprofits are currently facing. In addition to creating new grant funding opportunities, foundations are also revising requirements for their current grantees; expanding the scope of restricted funds to open general operating revenue streams, extending report due dates, and/or revising reporting requirements.
