COVID-19 shutdowns triggered action

Jean Majercin, principal of Jean Majercin Professional Grant Writing Services, announced that her volunteer services led to $65,000 in emergency grant funds for regional food banks in 2020.

“As the realities of the pandemic began to settle in around late March, we began seeing a substantial increase in demand for food bank services as layoffs and furloughs caused a growing number of families to experience food insecurities,” said Jean Majercin. Jean added, “From our work with our food pantry and food bank clients, we learned that due to the pandemic, many had to revise their delivery models to continue to serve those in need.  Some were forced to stop food drives and postpone fundraisers that usually provided desperately needed revenue to keep the doors open.  Additionally, the volunteers that typically assisted in the stores and warehouses were now unable to help.”

Jean reached out to numerous food pantries and food banks throughout the Pacific Northwest, offering her services to write grant requests for emergency COVID-19 funding.  Through her efforts eight food banks received funds ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.  A total of over $65,000 was secured to purchase much needed food resources for their communities.

Hope of Rainier benefits from grant awards

Kelly Miller, Executive Director of both Turning Point Community Service Center in Clatskanie, Oregon and Hope Of Rainier in Rainier, Oregon noted that “Jean made the process very  understandable and easy with her knowledge of grant writing.  During our time of need at the food pantry, Jean was able to come through for us with 2 grants, one for $5,000 and one for $10,000.”

Recent increases in federal unemployment claims show that joblessness will continue the surge in demand for food bank resources into the new year.  Jean Majercin remains committed to helping regional food banks in 2021.
